The Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation Department
Offers a variety of year-round activities for youth and adults including youth cooking, tennis lessons, bridge, cotillion and a variety of fitness classes available for all levels. Check out the list of programs below and contact us with any questions. Locals and visitors are welcome! No membership is required and all equipment is provided. Instructors are experienced, certified professionals providing participants with quality program instruction and challenging fitness workouts. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS
GENTLE YOGAIf you need to stretch, strengthen, relax, and smile, you should try Gentle Yoga. Gentle Yoga focuses on gentle movements and relaxation, and is suitable for all fitness levels. Classes are held in the Fran Russ Recreation Center every Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tokens must be purchased from the Park Office prior to attending class. One token per class.**Token Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents $7.00 per token, (Wrightsville Beach Residents age 60+ $3.00 per token.) Non-Residents $9.00 per token, (Non-Residents age 60+ $4.00 per token). A minimum purchase of 5 tokens is required for these prices, otherwise one token puchase is $10.00 for Wrightsville Beach Residents and $12.00 for Non-Residents.

EXTREME CROSS TRAININGThis class is suitable for ages 17 and over, both male and female, who have a good fitness base and core strengthening experience. Class structure varies each day but can include variations of push ups, pull ups, squats, weights, cardio and more taking training to the extreme. Challenges occur outdoors but in the event of inclement weather classes are held in the recreation center. Improve strength and endurance both aerobically and anaerobically with a wide variety of training techniques while being pushed to perform at 100% effort. Extreme Cross Training meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. **Token Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents $6.00 and Non-Residents $8.00. A minimum purchase of 5 tokens is required for above prices, otherwise one token purchase drop-in fee is $10.00 for Wrightsville Beach Resident and $12.00 for Non-Residents.

GET FITAn outdoor calisthenics class that's sure to be a challenge, strengthening your core and endurance level. This class meets outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, this class meets indoors when the recreation center is available. Call to confirm schedule if weather is questionable. Get Fit meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. **Token Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents $6.00 and Non-Residents $8.00. ZUMBA®Party yourself into shape with this Latin-inspired dance-fitness program. It’s an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning fitness party! ZUMBA® meets Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Tokens must be purchased from the Park Office prior to attending class. PILATESThe flowing movements of Pilates will help to strengthen the core muscles of your body as well as emphasize endurance, tone, flexibility, proper body alignment, balance and control. All ages and fitness levels are encouraged to attend. Classes are held in the Fran Russ Recreation Center next to the Wrightsville Beach Park office each Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30 - 8:15 a.m. Tokens must be purchased from the Park Office prior to attending class. POWER YOGAThis class combines the stabilizing and strengthening benefits of breath to stabilize the core muscles with the flexibility and postures of yoga. Movements target the core muscles of the trunk, creating stability in the deep abdominal muscles, pelvic floor and lower back by moving in and out of poses with control. Classes are held in the Fran Russ Recreation Center each Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Tokens must be purchased from the Park Office prior to attending class. BOOT CAMPA specialized program designed to offer a variety of exercise intensity levels to meet the needs of individuals. You get the benefit of having a group fitness instructor as well as a professional personal fitness trainer at a fraction of the cost. Boot Camp meets outdoors at the basketball courts in Wrightsville Beach Park (in the event of inclement weather, the class meets in the Recreation Center). This early morning class meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. Tokens must be purchased from the Park Office prior to attending class. One token per class. **Token Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents $6.00 and Non-Residents $8.00. LOW IMPACT AEROBICSWhile this class is particularly geared for Seniors, it is suitable for any adult and all fitness levels. Classes are taught by certified instructors that take the extra care necessary to protect sensitive backs and knees. Classes are held in the Fran Russ Recreation Center each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents $4.50 per class, (Wrightsville Beach Residents age 60+ $3.00 per class). TONE, STRENGTHEN, AND STRETCHThe name says it all for this class that uses body weight, hand weights, bands, and resistance techniques for a workout that tones and strengthens. And, don’t forget the stretching! Classes are held in the Fran Russ Recreation Center each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents $4.50 per class, (Wrightsville Beach Residents age 60+ $3.00 per class). YOUTH AND ADULT TENNIS LESSONSTennis lessons are offered for youth ages 6 - 8 and 9 - 12 as well as for adults. Group lessons meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at Wrightsville Beach Park. Fees for six one-hour lessons are $55 for Wrightsville Beach Residents and $70 for Non-Residents. Lessons may be scheduled on other days based for your group of six or more. Private and semi-private lessons are also available. Tennis Pro Jackie Jenkins has been a UKLTA registered coach since 1977. SHAG LESSONSLearn the basic shag step as you dance to beach music, or complement your basic shag knowledge in our intermediate class! Instructors Ken and Sandy Jones can teach anyone to shag! No partner is needed for these lessons held on Thursday evenings in four-week sessions. Our Beginner calss starts at 6:45 p.m. followed by our Intermediate class at 7:45 p.m. Classes are held in the Fran Russ Recreation Center located behind Town Hall. Wrightsville Beach Residents $35 and Non-Residents $45. Pre-registration is requested.

LINE DANCING LESSONSGet ready for weddings, concerts in the park, birthday parties and other events with the knowledge of popular line dancing. Instructor Inez Eason will teach the fundamentals of line dancing in a fun, yet effective manner. Line Dancing classes are held in four-week sessions on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Fran Russ Recreation Center located behind Town Hall at Wrightsville Beach Park. Wrightsville Beach Residents $35 and Non-Residents $45 (fee includes 4 one hour sessions). Drop-In Fees: Wrightsville Beach Residents, $10 and Non-Residents, $12. Pre-registration is requested.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMParks and Recreation offers an after school program for Wrightsville Beach Elementary School students weekdays until 6:00 p.m. in the Recreation Center. We transport the children from the school using our department mini-van.

PERFORMANCE CLUBCome join the Performance Club at Wrightsville Beach! Performance Club is a tuition based theater-program led by LJ Woodard. Each session ends with a live stage production at the Wrightsville Beach Amphitheater. NO AUDITIONS!! Performance Club meets on Thursdays and pre-registration is required.

WILMINGTON HAMMERHEADS SOCCER CAMPThe goal of the Wilmington Hammerheads and the Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation Department is to provide the highest quality soccer coaching program to the youth of our community. We are dedicated to teaching the fundamental skills and advanced technical and tactical play necessary to enhance each player’s game.

LACROSSE CAMPCape Fear Academy Head Coach Paul Gilbert leads the Summer Lacrosse Camp at Wrightsville Beach Park. His team of instructors includes local area middle school and high school coaches. The goal of this camp is to teach the fundamentals of lacrosse to youth in a fun and positive way. Sessions will consist of stick skills, and drills teaching proper catching and throwing. In addition to teaching the rules of the game, sportsmanship will be taught, modeled, and rewarded.

BASKETBALL CAMPBasketball By The Sea leads this developmental camp for players of all levels and abilities. Campers will learn different aspects of the game with emphasis being placed on fundamentals and personal fitness development. Campers will learn new drills to improve their overall skill level in an enjoyable, energetic, and positive camp atmosphere.

YOUTH TENNISTennis pro Jackie Jenkins has been a UKLTA registered coach since 1977. Instruction includes the beginning basics of tennis emphasizing sound fundamentals, from grips and proper footwork, to stroke production and movement. Two 4-day QuickStart sessions will be offered for youth ages 6 - 8 and 9 - 10. The QuickStart method provides for a smaller court and raquet, lower net, and tennis balls that have less bounce allowing the age 10 and under students to begin playing tennis almost immediately! 2

ART AND JEWELRY CAMPSWrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation offers Art and Jewelry Camps taught by local artists, Susan Tharin and Julia Jensen. Students will get hands on experience in painting, bead making, mosaic glasswork, wirework and much more! All supplies and a daily snack are included in the fee.

CAPE FEAR COTILLION MANNERS CAMPWrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation offers a one week summer camp that will make manners fun! Through games, crafts, and activities, campers will learn basic etiquette, sportsmanship, table manners, popular and ballroom dancing, and many more important skills that will last a lifetime!
